Today we are reading Mark 5.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:

Mark 5:18-20 - As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might accompany Him. 19 And He did not let him, but He *said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

You can share anything that is on your heart but, if you don't know where to start, try reading these verses and answering one or more of the following "Honest Questions"

Honest Questions

1. Which of the following questions impacts you most ask you think about what is being taught in Mark 5?

2. When reading Mark 3:27 Jesus spoke about the importance of "binding the strong man" before plundering his house. Did you notice how the beginning of this story describes the way that this man could not be bound with chains? Why do you think Mark included that detail in his account of this story?

3. How did Jesus "bind" what no other man had previously been able to "bind" in this story?

4. Are there any strongholds of the enemy left in your life? Any areas that you have learned to live with even though you and everyone else around you knows they are tormenting you and causing your life to look like the life of like this man who was living in the tombs, cutting himself, and crying out both day and night?

5. Is there anyone in your community that you have given up on as if they were a lost cause? Does this story inspire you to pray for them or do you think this story was told just so that we would know more about the authority of Christ?

6. Have you ever had a life-changing encounter with Jesus? Would you be willing to let me do a video call/interview with you about it sometime?

7. Did you notice that Jesus to the man who was delivered to "Go home to his people and tell them about the great things the Lord did for him" but, just a few verses later he gives "strict orders" to the father, mother, child, James, John, and Peter that they should tell no one about the little girl that was healed? Why do you think Jesus would tell the man one thing and the little girl and her parents something else?

8. In this chapter Jesus instructs the demoniac to go back and share his testimony with the people in the "Decapolis, or 10 city region". After that Jesus and his disciples left the country of the Gerasene, went back across the sea, returned to Nazareth to do ministry. Later though, in Mark 7:31 Jesus and the disciples return to the Decapolis, I believe to see how the ministry of the delivered man was going. Did you know that the crowd that gathers in Mark 8 is thought by some to be the fruit of the ministry of the man Christ delivered from the Legion of demons in Mark 5? What kind of hope does that give you regarding the call God has placed on your life or the lives of others?

9. What was your favorite verse in Mark 5 and why?

10. Do you have any specific questions or prayer requests after reading Mark 5?
