Hebrews 6:7-10

Today we are reading Hebrews 6.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:

Hebrews 6:7-10 - For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; 8 but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned. 9 But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way. 10 For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.

You can share anything that is on your heart but, if you don't know where to start, try reading these verses and answering one or more of the following "Honest Questions"

Honest Questions

1. Why do you think we tend to be so hard on ourselves?

2. Is it possible that this chapter is telling us that repentance from sin is not something that has to be done repeatedly? If so, why? If no, why not?

3. Can you describe a time where you were changed in such a way that you could not go back to your previous way of living?

4. Is the type of fruit you are bearing accurately described as "thorns and thistles" or "vegetation useful to those for whose sake tilled it?"

5. Can you describe a time where adversity and/or negative consequences for your actions caused you to seek a better way of doing things? Is that what verse 8 is describing or is it describing something more severe than that? Explain.

6. Why does a farmer burn his field? To do away with it or to prepare it for the next planting season?

7. Do you think this phrase, "we are convinced of better things concerning you" is as applicable to you as it was the Hebrews? Or do you somehow see yourself as one who should expect to receive bad things in life instead of good?

8. For whose sake do we receive the blessing of rain, the sowing of seed, the cultivation of our hearts, and the bearing of fruit? In other words, "What are we doing to participate with God in His redemptive plan for this world?"

9. What was your favorite verse in Hebrews 6 and why?

10. Do you have any specific questions or prayer requests after reading Hebrews 6?
