Galatians 2:14-16
Welcome to our Online Bible Study.
We are glad that you are here.
Today we are discussing:
Galatians 2:14:16 - But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews? 15 “We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; 16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.
Please, take some time to Share Your Thoughts With Us as they relate to this passage.
You can share anything that is on your heart but, if you don't know where to start, try reading these verses and answering one or more of the following "Honest Questions"
Honest Questions:
1. What is the issue Paul has with Peter, James, John and the group of Christians he calls "the party of the circumcission?"
2. In what way do we see the same sort of error in our churches today?
3. Paul calls their deviation from the truth "not being straight forward" about the truth of the Gospel. In what ways do we distort the Gospel in our culture?
4. What is the difference in these two statements, "if you being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?" and "if you being a Christian, live like a sinner and not like a Christian, how is it that you compel sinners to live like Christians?"
5. What is the primary difference between Judaism and Christianity?
6. If we are not justified by the works of the Law why do we encourage people to observe the Law? Do we practice the Law because we think it will benefit us most in this life or the life to come?
7. Why do we live by faith? Do we live by faith because we think it will benefit us most in this life or in the life to come?
8. Read 1 Corinthians 15:19. Have we flipped the ratio's in this equation? Would it be right to say, "if we have trusted Jesus for the next life only, we are of all men most to be pitied?" If not, why?
9. What was your favorite verse in Galatians 2 and why?
10. Do you have any specific questions or prayer requests after reading Galatians 2?
