Psalm 11:4-7

09 22 2020 Psalm 11 4 thru 7.jpg

Today we are reading Psalm 11.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:

Psalm 11:4-7 - The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. 5 The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates. 6 Upon the wicked He will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup. 7 For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face.

You can share anything that is on your heart but, if you don't know where to start, try reading these verses and answering one or more of the following "Honest Questions"

Honest Questions

1. Which of the following questions impacts you most ask you think about what is being taught in Psalm 11?

2. Do you think there was a significant difference in the way all mankind experienced the presence and/or knowledge of God prior to the crucifixion?

3. Did the outpouring of the Holy Spirit change the experience of all mankind or is the change only experienced by those people that by grace come to faith in who God is?

4. At this point in human history do you think people are tested by the eyes of the Lord in the same way the Psalmist is describing in Psalm 11?

5. Does this description of God as a "hater of the one who loves violence" complement or contradict the way you have been taught to think about God? Does that answer change in your mind/heart if you replace the proper noun "God" with "Jesus" or "Holy Spirit?"

6. Many scriptures talk about the way the wicked is ensnared by the trap he himself set. This passage says that God will also "rain snares" upon the wicked. In what way has God, His Word, and/or the Holy Spirit attempted to address wickedness or unrighteousness in your life this year?

7. When this chapter speaks of "fire, brimstone, and burning wind being the portion of the wicked" is that comparable to "the daily bread" we pray about when praying "the Lord's prayer?" Compare this thought with 1 Corinthians 11:30 and please, correct me if I am misrepresenting the idea of the Psalmist, Jesus, or the Apostle Paul in any of these three passages.

8. If righteous has been credited to us by faith in Jesus, is it possible that at least part of our daily bread could be the privilege of "beholding His face?" Compare that thought with Genesis 3:8 and Exodus 33:17-34:28 then please, take some time to fellowship with God in worship and prayer today if you have not done so already.

9. What was your favorite verse in Psalm 11 and why?

10. Do you have any specific questions or prayer requests after reading Psalm 11?
