Hebrews 4:14-16

Today we are reading Hebrews 4.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:

Hebrews 4:14-16 - Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Please, take some time to Share Your Thoughts With Us as they relate to this passage.

You can share anything that is on your heart but, if you don't know where to start, try reading these verses and answering one or more of the following "Honest Questions"

Honest Questions

1. When you read these posts do you read the associated chapter or do you just read the verse and the questions?

2. Does asking so many questions each morning help you find a way to relate or does it discourage you from participating?

3. If you read the whole chapter, is it surprising for you to find verses 12-13 in this context? What do you think the author is attempting to communicate and how does the word of God relate to our entering His rest?

4. Read Hebrews 4:14 again. What is "our confession" concerning Jesus? In what ways can it be difficult to hold on to that confession?

5. Do you realize that there is a difference between temptation and sin?

6. Cour "our weakness" in verse 15 be accurately translated "our sin"? If no, what is the difference between our weakness and our sin? If yes, how will you respond to this verse?

7. Do you imagine God being upset with you and punishing you for your sin/weaknesses or do you see Him being sympathetic, merciful, and gracious?

8. Read Exodus 24:15-18 and pay close attention to the idea of God being both a cloud by day and a fire by night. Is it possible that those who are entering rest see God as sympathetic, merciful, and gracious, while those that fail to enter the rest see God as an all-consuming fire and what difference does it make?

9. What was your favorite verse in Hebrews 4 and why?

10. Do you have any specific questions or prayer requests after reading Hebrews 4?
