1 Corinthians 6:9-12
Today we are reading 1 Corinthians 6.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:
1 Corinthians 6:9-12 - Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 12 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

Honest Questions
1. What kind of emotions or questions are stirred in you when you read this chapter?
2. How did we get to a place where many "Christians" believe that significant portions of the Bible do not apply to them?
3. Do sins like the ones in this list become irrelevant once a person is "washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God?"
4. Does our new identity in Christ outweigh any other name or label people might put on us even if we continue in our sinful behaviors or is this chapter saying we should be wise enough to understand that the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God empower us so that we "will not be mastered by anything?"
5. Compare 1 Corinthians 6:9-12 with 1 John 2:1-6. Which elements of these verses stand out most to you? Does your understanding of the way we practice our faith run parallel with these verses or perpendicular to them? Why do you say that?
6. Compare 1 Corinthians 6:9-12 with Romans 6:12-23. Which phrases in these passages stand out most as you read them and what sort of response should we have in light of them?
7. Compare 1 Corinthians 6:9-12 with Romans 7:17-24. In what ways can you currently related to the struggle Paul is describing in Romans 7? Have you ever experienced "deliverance from the body of death"? If so where did you find it? How did it happen? Who set you free?
8. Why do so many people feel stronger about one or two of the sinful behaviors in 1 Corinthians 6:9-12 than they do of others? Should we feel the same way about all of these sins? If so, should we feel like we feel when we think about the "mildest" sin on the list or the "most repulsive" sin on the list?
9. What is was your favorite verse in 1 Corinthians 6 and why?
